Live Music: Dennis Hitchcox
Dennis reveres the guitar as an amazing instrument and enjoys learning about its nuances through the rhythms and colors of jazz music. He loves performing in jazz ensembles of various types – big bands, gypsy jazz, Latin, solo guitar.
Dennis learned guitar mostly through classic rock from the ’70s and ’80s, then developed an interest in jazz and music theory later on, always trying to get his hands on as many records as possible. This exposed him to the formative works of guitar pioneers like Chet Atkins, Les Paul, and Mark Knopfler. In his adult life, he’s grown a deep appreciation for masters Duke Ellington and Count Basie, along with dozens of seminal jazz guitarists – Kenny Burrell, Emily Remler, Jim Hall, and Wes Montgomery.
Dennis loves retro swing music and is also the founder/music director of the iconic NoPo Big Band.
